Tips for Your Home Workout

Social distancing, self-quarantine, and closed gyms make it hard to stay active. We’d like to offer you a few suggestions on why this is especially important right now and how you can make your workouts at home enjoyable.

Many of our daily routines are currently limited, so it can sometimes be hard to stay motivated. And exercising together is always more fun, whether at a sports club, the gym, or out for a run.

Make your workout a priority

Procrastination—constantly putting things off—is also a risk when it comes to working out. If we don’t have anyone to work out with at a set time, we’ll quickly find an excuse to do something else instead. Keep in mind that working out is good for you, set specific times for it, and stick to them.

Create a workout plan

Instead of just doing something or trying to get in shape, make a detailed plan. For example, do a workout targeting a specific body part every other day, or focus specifically on improving your flexibility.

Try something new

Have you always wanted to try a targeted mobility workout or a HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) session? Check out a free video or give one of the many fitness apps a try. Most apps offer a free trial period. You might just discover something new that you love.

Set goals for yourself

Setting specific goals will help you avoid getting bored during your workout. As you see results, you’ll get in better shape and enjoy your workouts more. Be realistic and set goals that you can actually achieve. This will help you stay motivated.

 Create a pleasant atmosphere

Listen to an interesting podcast while you work out, or play your favorite playlist. Stay mindful during your workout and be sure to take breaks. Also, pay attention to your breathing.

Talk to your friends about it

Share your thoughts and inspire your friends. Maybe you can achieve a fitness goal together? When others join in, you can motivate each other.

Get some fresh air

Even if you're currently working out at home regularly, try to go outside as often as possible—take a walk, go for a jog, or ride your bike. Especially now, sunlight and fresh air are important for our immune system.

Treat yourself

Let's face it: right now, we're probably feeling frustrated at times because we can't exercise as we usually do. But with a well-planned home workout, we can find exercises that not only keep us fit but are also fun. After your workout, make yourself a smoothie or give a friend or family member a call. It's okay to treat yourself to a little indulgence every now and then—it's not only motivating, but you've earned it.
