Why We Love Cork So Much 💚

It wasn’t necessarily part of our plan for our first products to be made of cork, and we will certainly offer products made from other materials in the future. But in today’s blog post, we’ll explain why cork is so versatile and why its virtually unbeatable environmental footprint has completely won us over.

Cork is harvested from the bark of the cork oak and is harvested for the first time when the tree is about 25 years old, and then every 9 years thereafter. A single cork oak can produce up to 1,000 kg of cork, and the tree can live up to 250 years.

A stripped cork oak sequesters up to four times more carbon dioxide, making it beneficial for both people and nature.

No trees need to be cut down for this purpose; the use of cork therefore actively contributes to climate protection and results in an overall positive environmental footprint.

And we are also thoroughly impressed by the product features:

• Cork is antibacterial and hypoallergenic
• Natural and very comfortable against the skin
• Durable and long-lasting material
• Versatile
• Fully biodegradable

All these positive qualities are perfectly in line with our #iamtreeletic criteria. And you can see for yourselves in our shop that cork isn’t just natural—it can also look really beautiful.
